Comparison of the media image of Martin Fenin in the Czech Republic and Germany
Schuster, Michael ; Lukšů, David (advisor) ; Macková, Veronika (referee)
This bachelor thesis consists of two parts. The first part is the practical part, which deals with a comparison of the media image of football player Martin Fenin in the Czech Republic and Germany, the two countries where he spent the main parts of his career. The comparison is based on the print media and compares the Czech and German view between the tabloid newspapers Blesk and Bild, as well as between the quality media Mlada fronta Dnes and the German Die Welt. The practical part of the work is supplemented by interviews with experts from the Czech and German media scene. As a very talented player, Martin Fenin had the promise to become one of the best football players Czech football has ever had. Due to injuries, but also due to many scandals and activities incompatible with a career of a professional athlete, his steeply rising career gradually started to take a downward trend and his talent remained unfulfilled. Due to the ongoing scandals, he is perceived by part of the public as a tabloid celebrity rather than as a top athlete. The second part is the theoretical part, which is the basis for the practical part and understanding it is central to the practical part.

This bachelor thesis deals with the influence of American media on the decision to intervene in Cuba in 1898. The aim is to find out the reasons for the American intervention in Cuba and the role of American media, especially tabloids, in this decision making. The paper analyzes and justifies the factors that influenced the decision of President William McKinley. The first part describes the change of American media at the end of nineteeth century and explains the concept of yellow journalism that links to tabloids. The second part deals with events and political decisions before American intervention and ends with a brief description of the conflict. The last part discusses the role of tabloids in the context of the conflict. It has been found that the influence of American tabloids at that time is overestimated and was not the main reason for the US intervention on the island.
The persuative power of the yellow press: Could the Czech and Slovak yellow press has influenced the resulta of the Czech and Slovak Idol?
Šťastný, Michal ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Hronová, Tereza (referee)
Information on the marketability of the yellow press or tabloid media reveal that the yellow press is the strongest type of printed periodical media. It is therefore clear that this media have a big impact. My thesis seeks to evaluate the persuasive power of the media regarding the opinions of customers and consumers. To substantiate or refute claims that the tabloid media has persuasive power, I chose StarDance IV as a case study. Audience of this competition send their votes to support the dance couples performing during the contest stage. In a world with no yellow press, the basic television audience of this show would appreciate each performance strictly for what it is, and with their own non professionnal criterias: an esthetic and emotional judgement of people they only know through what the program choses to show of them. With yellow press, the audience is offered to judge these people according to new information that yellow press can chose to reveal and broadcast to improve or damage the popularity of individuals. The paper asks whether, when this happened, the dance couple could end the contest due to the negative coverage in the media. Interest on this media is explained by classical psychoanalysis and its concept of the conflict of three components of personality, as defined by Sigmund...
